Not Every Door Is An Exit — April 13, 2021

Better than Winning the Mega Lotto!

The only real side effects I’ve experienced after two chemo treatments was constipation. I had not had a bowel movement (BM) from April 1 to April 11. We tried increased fiber in my diet and added stool softener, the doctor prescribed a strong medicine to resolve it but nothing worked. Gas and bloating, the threat of infection or poison was increasing.

Finally we used a suppository and the constipation was broken up. Wow it was better than winning the Mega Lotto!

If you did not know what I was experiencing you would think I was exaggerating.

People often think they know what is best for us and they are often wrong because they don’t really know us or our situation. They don’t know the tears we cry for apparently no reason while driving on the freeway, they don’t know the fears that drive away sleep at night, they don’t know the numbing paralysis that we have to overcome each morning just to get out of bed. The Mega Lotto has relevance to none of these struggles which daily threaten to suffocate us.

We are struggling to be set free! Free from shame and regret for past actions or lack of actions, free from guilt for pain caused to others, often those closest to us. Free to be at peace with ourselves, with God and with others. Free to believe there really is a reason to hope.

And then we meet Jesus through a sermon or a song or a Bible verse. Again the tears come but no longer of despair but of joy. Jesus loves me! He tells me to come to Him no matter what my condition. He promises to reconcile me to God, myself and others. He tells me to look forward not backwards and that His wonderful plan for me is still in place. I just need to start living in the knowledge that I am specially made for a special purpose and it is never too late for that purpose to be fulfilled.

The ‘us’ that we have tried to hide from others and maybe even ourselves has always been known to Jesus. Others will say ‘if I only would win the Mega Lotto’ however we know better.

‘Things’ are nice but they have their place. Jesus and His people must have the number one place in our heart.

“In all these things we are more than conquerors through Him Who loved us.” Romans 8:37
